Madison Ice Muskies News Release
Behind Madison native Andy Cripps' hat trick the Ice Muskies gave the Chicago Blaze their first loss of the season with a 6-3 win Friday night at Hartmeyer Ice Arena.
The Blaze (5-1-0) got off to a 2-0 lead early in the first period, but Cripps - the team captain - came back with two goals just 21 seconds apart to tie the game.
"We faced a lot of adversity last weekend on our road trip and it's times like these when you need your leaders to step up like Andy did tonight," head coach Rod Davidson said.
Forward Brent Parks added his first goal of the night with 5:51 remaining in the first period to give the Ice Muskies (3-3-1) their first lead of the night.
Blaze captain Joe Pace tied the game at three just 6:11 into the second period, but Cripps came back with his third goal of the night with 1:01 left in the period to give Madison a lead it would never relinquish.
Forwards Solomon McCann and Cameron Sault were credited with assists on all three of Cripps goals. Parks added his second goal of the night with 2:31 remaining in the game and Stoughton native Mitch Kerns scored 36 seconds later to cap the score at 6-3.
Saturday the Ice Muskies wrap-up their two-game set with the Blaze at 5 p.m. when they play their first game of the season in Oregon, Wis. Fans who attend the game at Oregon Community Sports Arena can skate with the team after the game.
