Madison Ice Muskies News Release

Locked in a 3-3 tie in the second period, the Madison Ice Muskies scored six unanswered goals to win their first preseason game 9-3 over the Chicago Blaze Friday night at Hartmeyer Ice Arena.

Forward Brent Parks scored a goal and added three assists to lead the Ice Muskies, while Solomon McCann scored two goals including the capper with 5:39 remaining.

"Parks and McCann were real spark plugs for us," said head coach Rod Davidson. "Parks got us off to a good start and McCann is just a smooth skating player from Vancouver."

It didn't take long for Madison to get on the board. Just 1:15 into the game Parks took a pass from Ben Wilner and snuck it past Blaze goaltender John Smarsh. Former Wisconsin Badger defenseman Tom Bardis was also credited with an assist on the goal.

Just under seven minutes later, forward Brandon Holmes added a score to put the Ice Muskies up 2-0. The Blaze stormed back, however, scoring three of the next four goals to tie the game at three at the 2:49 mark of the second period.

That's when McCann took matters into his own hands. He snuck by the Blaze defense and scored top shelf on a breakaway goal less than a minute later. From there the Ice Muskies went into cruise control, scoring a total of six unanswered goals.

"McCann's first goal got us into an offensive flurry," said Coach Davidson. "We used our speed and it was very encouraging."

Saturday the Ice Muskies will travel to Chicago to take on the Blaze in their second and final preseason game. The regular season starts next Friday, Oct. 23 with a 7:30 game against the Evansville Icemen at Hartmeyer Ice Arena. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors/students and only $4 for children.
