Keystone Ice Miners News Release

FLINT, MI - Coming into Saturday night's matchup at Perani Arena, the Michigan Warriors were 1-21-2 when trailing after two periods. Despite those odds, they scored three times in the third to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 5-4 win.

Keystone played a dominant first period, getting goals from Michael Maiden, Matt Jones, and A.J. Coleman. Maiden and Jones had three points each in the period. Maiden deflected a Niko Coffman shot home for the first goal of the game and then set up Jones on a 2 on 1 to make the score 2-0. Coleman's goal game with just 6 seconds remaining in the frame after Michigan's Cody Kuster had made the score 2-1. It was 3-1 Ice Miners through one period of play.

The Warriors outshot the Ice Miners 18-9 in the 2nd period and Peter Bates scored the only goal at 9:51 to bring the score to 3-2. Nick Kossoff held strong the rest of the period and Keystone took the one goal lead into the 3rd period.

It took only 4:31 into the 3rd for Michigan's Mitch Wedding to tie the game as he fired a shot from the left point behind Kossoff to knot the score at 3. The Ice Miners would regain their lead at 6:59 when Garrett Hallford was set up by Kelly O'Brien. Michigan got an ensuing powerplay and tied the game again when Dalton Skelly ripped a shot off two posts and in to make it 4-4. The Warriors got their first and only lead with just under a minute to play when Bates was the beneficiary of a rebound off a Shane Cuckovich shot and he buried his second goal of the game. The Ice Miners immeditely called time-out but were unable to find the equalizer and fell, 5-4.

With Springfield and Soo defeating Johnstown and Janesville in shootouts, the Ice Miners were the only team in the North Division not to gain a point on Saturday. Their magic number remains at three as they'll finish the weekend in Flint with a 4:00 PM start on Sunday. The game will be broadcast on FASTHockey.com with the AWAY feed carrying the Ice Miners broadcast.
