Ice Inks Gifted Rookie in Gagnon

INDIANAPOLIS, IN-- The Indianapolis Ice announced today that the team has signed forward Olivier Gagnon (Oliver gah-NYAWN) and invited forward/defenseman Don Malko, forward Robert Stefan and defenseman Brad Lutsch to training camp which begins next Monday (10/7).

Gagnon, 23, just completed a successful four-year run with the American International Yellow Jackets of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (NCAA-I). He led the team in scoring the past two seasons and posted 23 points (4G, 19A) in 26 games last year. Overall, the 5-11, 215-pound forward compiled 91 points (36G, 55A) in 120 games at the school.

Malko returns to Indy after spending last season with the Ice. The versatile swingman played in all 64 games last year for the club and recorded nine points (1G, 8A) and 86 penalty minutes. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native has played three years professionally with the Ice and Fresno of the WCHL and has produced 57 points (15G, 42A) and 376 penalty minutes in 203 career games.

Stefan is the brother of Patrik Stefan, who was the number one pick in the 1999 NHL Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers. He played professionally last season in the Czech Republic.

Lutsch, 27, is a former star defenseman for Indiana University as he was the top-scoring defenseman in the American Collegiate Hockey Association on four different occasions. He skated last season in the Austrian Elite League playing with the Graz 99ers and the KSV Tigers.

The Indianapolis Ice opens up its 15th season of hockey in the "Circle City" when the team hosts the Tulsa Oilers on Friday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m. from the Pepsi Coliseum. Training camp for the Icemen is slated to begin on Monday, October 7th.
