Indiana Ice News Release
FORK IN THE ROAD: Indy split a pair of road games against the best of the Western Conference over the weekend, falling to the Sioux Falls Stampede 5-4 on Friday before knocking down the top-seeded Omaha Lancers 4-3 in Saturday's shootout affair. Four different Icemen lit the lamp against Sioux Falls on Friday as Indy worked to overcome a 5-2 deficit midway through the third period. Goal scorers included Michael Preston, Tyler Andrew, Denis Smirnov and Scott Conway. On Saturday in Omaha, Tyler Pham (G, A) and Patrick Newell (2A) led the charge with multiple-point nights, while Alex Talcott and Conway recorded tallies. Smirnov and Vince Pedrie posted goals in the shootout, while Jason Pawloski stopped both Omaha attempts in the extra session. With the victory, Indy improved to 7-2-1 in their last ten games.
OK CORRAL: Indy reversed a bit of "late game misfortune" on Saturday as the team earned their first shootout win of the season in the 4-3 victory against Omaha. The Ice was winless in overtime and shootouts (0-3) this year and had dropped their previous three shootouts dating back to last season. The club's last shootout win was a 4-3 win over Team USA U17 last February which included goals by Austin Hervey-Adrian and Tyler Pham.
HIKING UP THE LIGHT BILL: Scott Conway has been hiking up building utility costs as the first-year forward has at least a point in five consecutive games which includes five goals and three assists. His five-point stretch is his second five-game point streak of the season and his current tear includes points in ten of his last 11 games (10G, 6A). Conway continue to be one of the league's hottest newcomers as he sits second among USHL rookies in goals (11) and is tied for third with 18 points.
PROTECTING THE IGLOO: Indy has become a force in the friendly confines of Bankers Life Fieldhouse and Pan Am Pavilion over the past few weeks, garnering a 5-1-1 record on home ice in their past seven games. Their dominance expands beyond their record as the squad is fourth in the league at home on the penalty kill (90.0%) while outscoring visitors 27-17 in the stretch.
PLAYER DEALS: Aidan Muir is riding a three-game assist streak and has points in seven of his last eight games...Denis Smirnov has eight points in his past eight games...Tyler Pham has five points in his past five games...Tyler Andrew has four points in his last four games...Mitch Hults returned to the active roster from injured reserve over the weekend.
TEAM TRAILS: Indy leads the league in shot against per game (25.06) and is second in shots per game (35.88)...45 of the Ice's 57 goals have been scored in the second and third period...The Ice is the second-least penalized team in the league per game (14.50)...Indy is 3-3-3 in one-goal games and 2-2-0 in two-goal games.
COLLEGE CHATTER: Shane Berschbach (08-10) recorded four points (G, 3A) for Western Michigan in a weekend sweep of Michigan State and leads all Ice college alumni with 17 points (6G, 11A) on the season...Austin Ortega (12-13) registered three points (2G, A) for UNO in a weekend sweep of Miami...Nic Dowd (09-10) tallied a pair of goals for St. Cloud in a three-point weekend against Colorado College...Alexander Kuqali (09-12) posted an assist and a (+6) plus/minus for RIT in their 6-4 win over St. Lawrence on Saturday.
