Fort Collins, CO - The Colorado Ice head to Kennewick, Washington this weekend as they will play the Tri-Cities Fever for the third time this season. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:05 PM MST this Saturday, May 25th.
The Ice come into this game with a pair of victories already under their belt against the Fever. Last week, the Ice played host to the Fever and came out on top with a 39-35 victory. However, the Fever gave the Ice all they could handle. The Ice were facing a 14 point deficit in the third quarter before they eventually were able to make the comeback. Wide receiver Matthew Roark (4) played a huge role in the comeback. Roark reached the end zone three times, twice through the air and once on the ground. Defensive lineman Gabe Knapton (33) had a monster game, racking up 12 tackles (three for loss) with two and a half sacks.
Tri-Cities was either tied or leading Colorado for all but the last 18 seconds of play. The Fever had a chance to pull out a last-second win, but Dante Warren's (5) 14th and final pass attempt was deflected by Ice defensive back Eric Brown (15) and fell incomplete. After representing the Intense Conference in the last two United Bowls, the Fever are now three games behind the Nebraska Danger for the second and final playoff spot with just three games remaining.
With four games remaining before the playoffs the Ice coaching staff has made some additional roster moves this week. Linebacker Joe Thornton (1) and Defensive Back Reggie Sullivan (9) have both returned to the Ice after Thornton took the first part of the season off and Sullivan started the season in Sioux Falls. In addition, former Tri-Cities Running Back Dennis Kennedy (7) has signed with the Colorado Ice after sitting out the first 10 games of the season waiting on an opportunity to play.
"Bringing back Joe and Reggie will help us solidify or secondary and adding Kennedy will give us the advantage of having a fresh runner for the final push to the playoffs, "stated Head Coach Heron O'Neal.
