Ice Fall Victim to Phantoms' Scoring
April 7, 2013 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release
Momentum from a steady first period soon shifted in favor of the Youngstown Phantoms as they rattled off four unanswered goals in the second and third periods to defeat the Indiana Ice 5-2 Sunday afternoon at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Tyler Pham and Patrick Newell found the back of the net for Indy while Laythe Jadallah recorded his first USHL point with an assist on Pham's first-period goal.
Youngstown's first lead of the contest lasted only 30 seconds as Pham answered Austin Cangelosi's goal with 46 seconds in the frame. Jadallah took a pass from Lukas Laub and then fed the University of Denver commit from the faceoff circle for his eighth goal of the season.
"Fancy footwork" from Newell gave the Ice their first and only lead of the contest at 2-1 midway through the second period. After shutting down the league's most dangerous shorthanded unit, Blake Siebenaler lofted a pass from the blueline to the faceoff circle. Vince Pedrie's shot on net went wide where the puck met up with Newell's skate and deflected into the net for his third goal of the season.
Indy looked to have momentum as they shut down Youngstown's power play unit for a majority of the man advantage until Kyle Connor dug the puck out of a corner battle and dished it to Tommy Davis, whose laser from the blueline beat Anderson Snair stick-side to knot the score at 2-2.
John Padulo put the Phantoms ahead for good with a power play goal late in the second and Youngstown did all the scoring in the third period as Sam Anas and Cangelosi connected for the victors.
Hockey action returns to Bankers Life Fieldhouse next Saturday and Sunday as the Ice host the Waterloo Black Hawks in a weekend double-header to close the book on the 2012-2013 campaign. Saturday's contest is set to begin at 7:05 pm while Sunday's game is a 3:05 pm faceoff.
