Ice Fall in Matchup with Waterloo
March 6, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release
With the top spot in the United States Hockey League on the line, it was too little, too late for the Indiana Ice as they fell to the Waterloo Black Hawks 5-2 Thursday night from Young Arena.
Dwyer Tschantz broke Indy's scoring drought with just 12 seconds remaining in the second period while Brian Pinho extended his goal steak to three games with his fourth tally in the stretch during the final 20 minutes. Jason Pawloski faced 42 bullets in net.
Indy held the USHL's top scoring Black Hawks to a single goal in the first 15 minutes of play before a pair of costly penalties tripled the host's lead to a troubling 3-0 margin at the first intermission.
It wasn't until a lucky bounce off Tschantz's feet that the Ice were finally able to break the silence with only 20:12 remaining in the contest.
A cross-ice pass from defenseman Timothy Shoup deflected off the forward's blade just outside of the crease and was ruled a goal after the refs saw no intentional kicking motion from Tschantz. Denis Smirnov also earned helpers' credit on the tally.
Pinho tried to refuel the rally midway through the third period when his third goal against the Hawks this season found twine. The effort fell short as the final buzzer rang with the Ice in a 5-2 hole.
Indy continues their western road trip on Friday and Saturday with a set of games against the Lincoln Stars from the Lincoln Ice Box. The puck is set to drop for both games at 8:05 pm.
