Battalion Handle Whalers, Win 7-5

In the first of 3 games between the two clubs this weekend the Danbury Whalers were looking to get back to their winning ways while Berkshire was attempting to keep their hot streak going.

The opening frame of the contest would see a slew of action on both ends of the ice. Just 2 minutes in Tyler Prendergast would find Mike Dolman on the backdoor of the net to tap home the first goal of the contest, Mike McCurtain with the secondary assist. The Whalers would reply quickly and after a McCurtain slashing penalty it would be Kristaps Nimanis firing home after the goal mouth scramble to tie the game on the power play. The Whalers were not done and just a few minutes later Ryan Patsch would rifle a snap shot home over Louie George's shoulder to give the Whalers the lead. Tom Tracy would take a hooking call and on the resulting power play Brett Liscomb would be set up on the back door and score to put the Whalers up 3-1. The Battalion weren't finished however and after a Dan Morin tripping call Tom Tracy would pick up the puck in the high slot and fool Mike Brown up high to make it a 3-2 game. After 20 mintues of play shots were 15-12 in favor of Berkshire.

The second period would belong to the Berkshire Battalion who jumped on the Whalers net minder early and often. Tom Tracy would repeat his performance in this period when Julian Fraser took a double minor for boarding Berkshire's Vlad Gavrik. After a netmouth scramble Tracy would slide home his 2nd of the game and follow that up just 7 minutes later scoring even strength to earn the natural hat trick, 3 goals in a row. The Battalion weren't done as Tyler Prendergast would pick up a juicy rebound in front of the net and put it up high past brown to make it a 5-3 game. After 2 periods of play the Battalion outshot the Whalers 31-21

The third period would not disappoint fans in North Adams as the game remained a back and forth affair. Just over 3 minutes in Tim Richter would redirect the puck into the net and get his team to back within 1. The Battalion would reply quickly however and Tom Tracy would score his 4th of the game when Jeff Sanders skated in and made a quick move around Mike Brown leaving the puck to be swatted in by Tracy. Ian Delong would battle his way through a goal mouth scramble once again and just 5 minutes after Tracy's goal the Whalers would once again come within one. It was not to be however when after a neutral ice face off, which had forced Mike Brown to come back into his net after Danbury had been trying to get the extra attacker, Dimitry Antipin would fire home a shot set up by Tyler Prendergast to ice the game 7-5. The period saw the only fight of the game when Ian Reopel fought Nathan Judd-Warren which was more of a wrestling match.

Louie George would stop 28 of 33 shots in the winning effort while Mike Brown allowed 7 goals on 47 shots. The two teams will play Saturday and Sunday in Danbury.

Dashers Give Warriors a Bigtime Beating, 13-2

It was a very special night at the David. S Palmer Arena on Friday, February 06. The legendary Hanson Brothers, from the 70's movie "Slapshot" were in town to celebrate with our crowd, and even play a game against the Danville Heat "mites" [6-8 year olds] program. The Chicago Blackhawks Band attended the party, even though they temporarily changed their name to "The Hanson Brothers Band". Speed painter John Jansky was also on hand and painted three separate pictures of the Hanson Brothers in less than 10 minutes. If you have never heard of John, do yourself a favor and Google one of his painting, you won't be disappointed.

When I say the Dashers exploded with offense in the first period, I truly mean it. The Dashers scored five goals on 14 shots; three of those goals came within the first minute and 12 seconds of the game. Andrew Harrison and Brian Soskin both had two goals in the first period; Justin Brausen had the other goal for Danville. The Dashers lead 5-0 at the end of the first period and were greeted by the Hanson Brothers as they left the ice.

The Second and third periods were as full of offense as the first. The Dashers scored five goals in the second period. Justin Levac scored two goals in the second while Andrew Harrison added a goal, that goal gave Harrison the hat trick. Brian Soskin also got the hat trick; however Soskin got one more to go along with it. Jonathon Juliano and Gehrett Sargis both scored goals as well. The Warriors of Steel City scored two goals late in the third period. The Dashers won 13-2 over Steel City and extended the teams win streak to eight games. We will be back in action Saturday, the 6th at 7:05 p.m. vs Dayton.

Dayton Defeats Watertown to Move into First Place in the Federal Hockey League

(Dayton) The Demonz put on an offensive show Friday night, defeating the Watertown Wolves 8-3. Dayton never let up on Watertown in the tilt. Watertown did not go down without a fight and played a very physical game but could not capitalize.

The Dayton Demonz took to the ice Friday night with momentum on their side against the Watertown Wolves. Dayton came out the victor in Thursday night's game against Watertown in a close 5-4 OT thriller to tie them for first place with 80 points apiece. A win would propel the Demonz into first place.

The first period kicked off with physical play from both teams. Dan Pszenyczny broke free and fired a puck that found the back of the net through traffic to give the Demonz a 1-0 advantage. Roger Tagoona scored a shorthanded goal on a penalty shot after being tripped on a breakaway to give Dayton a 2-0 lead. Dayton went ahead 4-0 with Ahmed Mahfouz scoring on a 5 on 3 man advantage followed by Robert Vanwynsberghe's goal to increase the Demonz' lead. Dayton ended the first period with another shorthanded goal off the stick of Jared Hicks, ending the first period with a score of 5-0 in favor of Dayton.

Both teams settled down in the second period after 36 combined penalty minutes in the first period, including two fights. The Wolves started the second period on a shot by Cody Dion that went just over the shoulder of the Demonz' net minder and into the net, making the score 5-1. Dayton answered Watertown's goal with two goals from Lester Brown at the end of the second, ending the second period with a score of 7-1.

Roger Tagoona started the final period with a brilliant steal that lead to a breakaway goal (his second of the night) increasing Dayton's lead to 8-1. Cody Dion, desperately trying to get his team back into the game, scored his second goal of the night for Watertown. Lucas LaBelle, capitalized off of the momentum of their last goal, and snuck a shot through the legs of the goaltender to shorten the deficit to 8-3 for the Wolves.
