The Demonz Answer the Bell Against the Privateers
By Dr. Robert Kirchner
(Dayton, Ohio) The Mayan calendar may have had it wrong as it pertained to a sudden apocalypse today. However, one thing is a constant, Dayton winning on home ice, as the Demonz extended their home winning streak to 11 games this evening with a 6 to 3 victory over the 1000 Islands Privateers.
The first period pitted the offensive minded Demonz against the defensive minded Privateers. Dayton would outshoot 1000 Islands 22-8, and lead 2-0 at the end of a very physical 1st period. Matt Anthony kept the Privateers in the game with outstanding goaltending, not giving the Demonz any rebounds to capitalize on. After 17 minutes of play and no score, Dayton coming off a two-man advantage, controlling the puck deep in the Privateers zone, Nick Wheeler gave Dayton the 1-0 lead seconds later Dayton's Peter Cintala scored from the high slot.
The physicality would become more rampant in the second period, with 78 penalties minutes were called between both teams.
The period would end in a 3-3 tie. The Privateer's would get on the board mid-way through the 2nd to cut Dayton's lead 2-1, as Peter Campbell ripped a wrist shot past Jeff Rose, from the low slot. The next 3 goals would all be scored on the power play. Justin MacDonald would tie the game at 2-2. Dayton would answer with Jesse Felten giving Dayton the lead 3-2. The Privateers would round out the scoring as Kris McCarthy knotted the game at 3-3.
The Demonz would go up 4-3 with another power play goal, and game winner on blast by Seth Ronsberg's. Jesse Felton's 2nd goal of the game, on a backhander, high slot, eluded the Privateer Goalie midway through third period, increased Dayton's lead 5-3. Dayton would close out the scoring, with Anthony being pulled for the extra attacker. Jason Hill's empty-netter, finalized the scoring, and victory for the Demonz 6-3 Demonz. Matt Anthony's outstanding play in the net for 1000 Island's proved to be nothing short of a valiant effort.
Both teams meet tomorrow night at 7:35 pm on Hara ice, where the Privateers hope to gain a split before leaving Dayton.
