Ice Bats End Iguanas Season

March 30, 2002 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
San Antonio Iguanas News Release

San Antonio, Texas - The San Antonio Iguanas had their season ended on Saturday night in Freeman Coliseum by the Austin Ice Bats by a final score of 4-3. The Iggys rallied back from a 3-1 second period deficit to tie the game in the third period but fell short when Tad Lardner scored the game winning goal for Austin just past the midway point of the final period.

Joining Lardner as goal scorers for the Bats were Dan Price, Gerald Tallaire and Daniel Tetrault. San Antonio got goals from Scott Green, Matt Van Horlick and a shorthanded goal by Jeff Parrott.

San Antonio and Austin each tallied once in the first period with Price and Green netting the goals. Austin took a two goal lead in the second period behind Tallaire's and Tetrault's goals. With under two minutes remaining in the second period, Parrott scored his first goal of the series and just his second career shorthanded goal.

San Antonio would tie the score early in the third behind Van Horlick's score, but it was Lardner who beat San Antonio's Brent Belecki with 9:12 remaining in the game that proved to be the fatal blow to the Iggys playoff lives.

Austin finished the game outshooting the Iguanas 36-25 with Bryan McMullen making 22 saves earning his third victory in three starts in the series. Belecki made 32 saves in the losing effort.
