Winnipeg Ice News Release
The Winnipeg ICE return home to take on the Wheat Kings one more time before the holiday break ensues. This will be the sixth meeting between the two teams this season and the start of three straight with the other two meetings coming right after the holiday recess.
The ICE and the Wheat Kings spoiled each others home openers early in the year as the ICE beat Brandon 3-2 on opening night and the Wheat Kings returned the favour the next night in Winnipeg. The Wheat Kings then went on to win on Remembrance Day and November 29th both in Brandon. The ICE would respond the next night in Winnipeg pulling off a third period come from behind win. Connor McClennon recorded his first career WHL hat trick that night en route to the ICE 6-5 win.
The ICE continue to look forward with a 7-3-0-0 record in their last 10 outings and look to build off that tonight.
Following tonight's contest, the ICE will travel to Brandon on the 27th of December to take on the Wheat Kings before hosting them the next night in Winnipeg.

LAST GAME - 5-4 SO WIN IN REGINA: The ICE were short handed twice in the first ten minutes to get things going. With two big penalty kills done, Connor McClennon opened the scoring on a unassisted marker at the 8:44 mark of the first period to give the ICE a 1-0 lead. The ICE went on their third penalty kill of the period and just after it expired Regina's Holmes evened this game up at 1. With just over a minute remaining in the first, it was a tic-tac-toe play that Owen Pederson finished off to give the ICE a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
Just before the midway mark of the second, the ICE found themselves in the penalty box again and Regina capitalized on the man advantage. Carson Denomie squared the game up at two a piece. The ICE found themselves on the man advantage later in the period and Brad Ginnell scored on a back door one timer pass from Jackson Leppard to regain the one goal lead for the ICE. Shortly after it was the Pats' Kolle who evened the game back up at three heading into the final frame.
Robbie Holmes gave the Pats their first lead of the game 6:08 into the third period as he snapped one past Liam Hughes from the slot. Jackson Leppard tied the game up late in the third on a rebound from a shot by Brad Ginnell at the 17:10 mark of the third and that took us to overtime in Regina.
Some back and forth action in overtime saw some great chances but no goals. Connor McClennon scored the winner in the shoot out while goaltender Liam Hughes stopped all three shooters he faced. Hughes made 27 saves on 31 shots in the win.
