The Brantford Red Sox have certainly had their fair share of the limelight over the past four Intercounty Baseball League seasons, and that limelight grew even bigger on Friday night as one of their players accomplished a significant milestone to etch his name into the record books.

Not only was it a great night for Red Sox fans as the home crowd witnessed a convincing 16-1 win over the visiting Burlington Twins, but designated hitter Kevin Hinton's night at the plate was the icing on the cake, as the veteran tied - then broke - the IBL's all-time record for career hits.

Hinton tied the previous record of 765 hits held by London Majors great Arden Eddie with a two-run single in the second inning, then broke the record in his next at bat with his 766th hit, another single. Both hits came off Burlington pitcher Jordell Farquharson.

Farquharson took the loss for the Twins, who slipped to 9-16 on the season with a 4 ½ game lead on the last place Hamilton Cardinals. He lasted just the first three innings allowing ten runs - nine earned - on eleven hits with five walks and two strikeouts.

Brantford starter Mike Meyers earned the win and helped the Red Sox return to the win column after they saw their 13-game win streak come to a halt last night in Barrie. Meyers allowed just three hits over five shutout innings, walking three and striking out eight. Four others came on to wrap things up for the Red Sox (22-4).

To match their 16 runs, the Red Sox smashed 16 hits on the night, including Hinton's pair of singles and two RBI. Josh McCurdy and Terrell Alliman each registered three hits on the night, as McCurdy had three hits and three runs scored with a run batted in, while Alliman singled twice and doubled, scoring four times and drove in one. Scott Thorman singled and homered, driving in five runs and scoring three times, while Lee Delfino chipped in with a single, double, three RBI and a run scored. Steve Lewis doubled and drove in two, while Tyler Burnell singled and scored twice. Wayne Forman added a double with a run scored while Jason Gotwalt homered, finishing with two runs scored and an RBI.

Five different Twins accounted for the teams five hits on the night, including Branson Joseph who doubled and came in to score, and Adam Cholewka who singled and drove in the lone run in the top of the ninth inning. Phil Steer, Zach Elbirt and Jeff Kosta picked up the other base hits in the loss.
