
Hurricanes Welcome New Head Coach and General Manager

Halifax, NS -- The Halifax Hurricanes are pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Leslie as their new Head Coach and General Manager.
Kevin Keathley has stepped down as the Hurricanes' bench boss for personal reasons. The Club would like to thank Coach Keathley for his pre-season work and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.
Originally from Amherst, Nova Scotia, Leslie was a classroom and physical education teacher at the elementary, intermediate and high school levels in both Nova Scotia and P.E.I. over the past 27 years.
"I am very excited to welcome Coach Leslie to the Hurricanes organization; he is not only local which is fantastic; but he brings a lifetime passion of basketball excellence to our Club," remarked Jim Mills, Chair of the Board of Directors for the Hurricanes.
Leslie has achieved coaching success at the local, provincial and national levels. He has represented two provinces at the Canada Games as an official and a coach, is a former president and director of elite development with Basketball PEI, Assistant Coach of the UPEI Men's team as well as an instructor with the Canada Basketball Atlantic High Performance Program. He has coached various provincial teams and high school programs in Nova Scotia and P.E.I., accumulating several provincial championships.
He joined the pro ranks, as an Assistant Coach, in PEI with the Island Storm in 2012. Working alongside and learning from Joe Salerno the past four seasons and been rewarding for Leslie.
"I would like to thank the Island Storm for providing me with a very comprehensive experience through all phases their organization to help prepare me for this opportunity in my home province of Nova Scotia," remarked Leslie.
"I am very appreciative and look forward to joining the highly successful Halifax Hurricanes organization. Nova Scotia, and Halifax, has a long and storied tradition of excellence in basketball at all levels and I look forward to continuing to build on that legacy through our work in the community and with the Hurricanes."
