After trailing by nearly 20 points in the first half, the Hurricanes pulled off a gutsy comeback in front of their fans at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax on Thursday evening.
The Hurricanes beat the visiting Moncton Magic 107-97 to take Game 1 of the National Basketball League of Canada Atlantic Division Finals.
The Magic got off to a blazing fast start and led by the star player Terry Thomas, who finished with a game-high 36 points. The Magic outscored the Hurricanes 35-17 in the opening quarter.
But the Hurricanes took that punch and kept going, slowly cutting into the lead until the fourth quarter when they went on a 34-16 run to tie the game, take the lead and win by 10.
Antoine Mason led the Hurricanes with 33 points on 50 per cent shooting along with nine rebounds.
Ta'Quan Zimmerman hit some timely threes in the fourth to fuel the comeback and ignite the Scotiabank Centre crowd.
Mike Poole also came up big in Thursday's game, putting up 15 points, grabbing six boards and three steals.
Six Hurricanes scored in double figures on Thursday.
The Hurricanes will host Game 2 on Saturday, April 21. Tickets are available at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office or Online.
After that, the series heads to Moncton for Games 3 and 4 on April 24 and 26.
