Hurricanes Sands Becomes Newest Firecat

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats announced today that former Miami Hurricane Ethenic Sands, who was a key player in the Fircats 2004 af2 Championship run, was recently assigned to the team by the league office.
No matter what the uniform, success follows Ethenic wherever he goes; he led Carol City High School to back-to-back Class 6A State Championships earning All-State accolades while going 29-1 as the schools starting quarterback.
Sands was a versatile receiver and explosive kick return man for the Miami Hurricanes from 1999-2002, winning a National Championship in 2001. While he began his college career as QB Ken Dorsey's backup, he made the switch to receiver in 2001 and finished with 51 receptions for 735 yards and 6TD's.
Sands joined the Firecats midway thru the 2004 season appearing in 3 games, making his biggest impact in the American Conference Championship where his electrifying 56 yard kick return for a TD gave Florida a 20-17 halftime lead over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers. The Pioneers never recovered and Florida went on to win the Arena Cup against the Peoria Pirates.
"The guy's a game breaker," said Firecats Offensive Coordinator Ken Mastrole. "He made the difference in that Wilkes-Barre game, I'm glad to have him back so he can prove to everyone that he belongs at the next level."
The Firecats will host their Final open tryout Saturday March 4th at Estero High School Field. 21900 River Ranch Road. Estero, FL 33928. Registration begins at 10am with workouts starting at 11am. A $75 (Cash Only) registration fee is due the day of the tryout. The tryout is open for all positions and will be conducted outdoors on natural grass. Players will be required to perform in a Prostyle Combine Workout. All participants are required to bring their own shoes (cleats recommended) and other workout attire. Players are encouraged to Pre-Register by calling 239-390-2287.
The Florida Firecats open the 2006 season on the road against the defending af2 Cup Champion Memphis Xplorers April 8th.
