Everett Silvertips News Release
LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game and then score the only goal of the shootout in a 4-3 defeat of the Everett Silvertips Wednesday night at Enmax Centre. After gaining a point in the shootout loss, Everett stands at 4-11-0-3 going into Friday's matchup with Kootenay.
Tyler Maxwell, Jordyn Boyd and Josh Birkholz had goals as the Silvertips built a 3-0 advantage approaching the halfway point before Lethbridge began to come back. The Hurricanes turned the game in their favor with two powerplay goals in a 14-second span after Boyd was whistled for a five-minute major penalty late in the second period.
The first period remained scoreless for over 15 minutes, with Everett killing off three Lethbridge powerplays to keep the Hurricanes off the board. The 'Tips then broke through on their own powerplay as Tyler Maxwell skated out from behind the net and snuck a shot through Liam Liston's five-hole to open the scoring. Just 12 seconds later off the face-off, Vladimir Dolnik fed a pass through the defense to Jordyn Boyd, who then beat Liston inside the near post to give the Silvertips two quick scores and a 2-0 lead after one.
Josh Birkholz was hooked on a shorthanded breakaway in the second frame and awarded a penalty shot, making good on the opportunity with a backhander to the stick side to make it 3-0 for the 'Tips. Lethbridge got on the board two minutes later when Brady Ramsay followed his own shot to the net and knocked in the rebound to put the lead at 3-1. Later in the period, Boyd was whistled on a five-minute major penalty for clipping. On the ensuing powerplay, Ramsay scored again on a deflection in front and was followed up just 14 seconds after that when Landon Oslanski netted a second powerplay goal to knot the score at three.
Everett outshot Lethbridge 14-8 in the third period, but could not find the go-ahead goal as the contest remained tied all the way through overtime. The shootout was scoreless through two rounds before Cam Braes beat Kent Simpson in round three; with that goal becoming the winner when Ryan Harrison was stopped by Liston to end the game.
Kent Simpson (4-8-0-2) stopped 34 shots in the shootout loss, while Liam Liston (1-5-0-0) earned his first victory with 38 saves. The Silvertips outshot the Hurricanes 41-38 and scored on 1 of 4 powerplay chances. Lethbridge was 2 for 7.
The Silvertips will play one more game in Canada before they return to the United States to face Spokane on Sunday, traveling to Cranbrook, British Columbia to take on the defending WHL Champion Kootenay Ice Friday at 6:00 pm Pacific Time. Pre-game radio coverage begins at 5:30 Friday on Fox Sports 1380 AM.
