Hurricanes Gain Series Lead over Island Storm
April 12, 2018 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Halifax Hurricanes News Release
The Halifax Hurricanes used another big third-quarter run to beat the Island Storm 110-96 in Charlottetown on Thursday night.
The Hurricanes got off to their best start of the series so far with a 23-point opening quarter with better shooting than they've had out of the gate in previous games. It was good enough to go into the halftime break with a three-point advantage over the Storm, which ballooned to a 20 point lead in the third when the Hurricanes went on a 33-18 run.
The Storm fought back to within 10 in the fourth quarter, but the Hurricanes were able to contain the surging home team and capture the road win to take a 2-1 lead in the National Basketball League of Canada Atlantic Division Semifinal.
Forward Tyrone Watson led the Hurricanes scoring effort in Charlottetown with 28 points, while pulling down seven rebounds and grabbing 3 steals and dishing out two assists.
Fellow front-court starter Billy White had a big game with a 24-point, 12-rebound double-double. White shot a super-efficient 62.5 per cent from the floor, including one three-pointer.
Starting point guard Cliff Clinkscales finished the game with 12 points but left the game early in the first half with foul trouble, but newly-named Sixth Man of the Year Ta'Quan Zimmerman came off the bench and lit up the Storm for 19 points, including five threes and dished out six assists in Clinkscales absence.
Regular season leading scorer Antoine Mason had a 10-point outing on Thursday after leading Halifax in scoring in Games 1 and 2.
With a 2-1 lead, the Hurricanes have a chance to close out this best of five series in Game 4 on Saturday night, April 14 in Charlottetown. That game starts at 7 p.m. and can be watched live on HalifaxHurrricanes.ca.
If necessary, Game 5 will be played in Halifax on Wednesday, April 18.
