Hurricanes defeat the Moncton Magic at Scotiabank

Halifax, (NS) - The (1-6) Halifax Hurricanes presented by Eastlink and the Moncton Magic met for the first time on 'Colliers Project Leaders' night at the Scotiabank Centre. The Hurricanes looking to end a season-high five game losing streak in Mike Leslie's return at the helm for Halifax.

The Hurricanes got off to a slow start, the Magic were led by centre's Ronald Delph who threw down one of two of his dunks at the 4:30 mark, and six points in the quarter, then Evans coming off the bench chipped in five including a triple. The Canes were led by Guard's Antoine Mason coming off his franchise and career high 44pt performance versus the Sudbury Five, chipped in eight points along with Joel Kindred who also had eight. Canes trailed by two after 12 minutes.

The Magic's Evans play carries over in the second, hitting two triples and eight points in the frame. Evan's counterpart Ronald Delph closed the second quarter, first with a put back and a three-pointer at the buzzer that gave the Magic a 57 to 47 lead at the break.

Halifax would erase the ten point deficit in the third quarter holding the Magic to 15 points in the frame, and posting 31 points of their own. Antoine Mason hit for eight points, the Canes as a team dropped five three pointers in the quarter and led by six, 78 to 72 heading into the final frame.

The fourth would see both teams get off to a slow start offensively, before Halifax took their largest lead of 9 points at the 11:31 mark and never looked back. Canes CJ Washington's clutch free throws with 1.7 seconds remaining iced the game, Washington would finish with 21 points and 9 rebounds, and Mason finished with 26 points to lead all scorers. The Magic were led by Jeremiah Mordi finishing with 23 points and 7 assists in the loss. The Hurricanes will meet the Moncton Magic once again Sunday January 19th at 2pm at the Scotiabank Centre on 'Charm Diamond Centres' Game Day.
