Hurricanes Bring Their Game to Moncton

Back to reality, for the Moncton Magic this marks their first loss of the 2019 NBL of Canada Playoffs and their first home loss since March 12th. Leading by 11 points at the half, Moncton was stunned by a 62-36 scoring run by the surging Hurricanes. After taking care of Halifax during the regular season, the Moncton Magic drop Game 1 of the Atlantic Division Finals to the Halifax Hurricanes, 102-87.
No one on Moncton's roster could get into any legitimate scoring rhythm. Billy White finished with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists. Denzell Taylor finished with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks. While Marcus Lewis recorded 10 points and 3 rebounds. Although Trey Kell was the Player of the Game and recorded a stat line of 23 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists, even he struggled to find his jump shot down the stretch.
For the Halifax Hurricanes Mike Poole finished with a game high 24 points, while adding 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Former Magic star, Terry Thomas finished with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Reigning NBLC Defensive Player of the Year Rhamel Brown recorded 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks. While Jordan Washington was a force from the second he entered the game finishing with 23 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals off the Hurricanes bench.
This competitive second round series is far from over. It's a best of 7 series and this loss is merely a wakeup call for the Moncton Magic. There is no doubt in my mind that the team that has had a target on their backs all season long will enter Game 2 with a completely different approach and mindset. On to the next one mentality, Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday, April 20that 7pm as your Magic will look to even the playing field and protect homecourt against the Halifax Hurricanes.
