Halifax Hurricanes News Release

Halifax, (N.S.) - The Halifax Hurricanes have signed their first two players for the 2018-19 National Basketball League of Canada season.

On Friday, the Hurricanes re-signed veteran point guard and locker room leader Cliff Clinkscales.

This is Clinkscales' fifth straight season playing in Halifax and Hurricanes Head Coach Mike Leslie is very pleased to bring their point guard back.

"Cliff and I share a mutual respect for the games of basketball," said Leslie. "He likes to see the game executed at a high level. I strive to try to get our team to play to that level throughout the season."

Leslie also looks forward to seeing the positive impact Clinkscales has on younger Hurricanes joining the roster this year.

"He brings a very solid veteran presence to practice every day and the locker room and out on the court," said Leslie. "You can't put a value on that."

Despite the miles the 34-year-old point guard has put on his body, Leslie says he is still the hardest working player on the roster.

On Friday the Hurricanes also officially signed shooting guard Terry Thomas from Dartmouth, who they acquired the rights to earlier this week.

"Terry is a veteran who has proven his game in the league," said Leslie of the new addition.

Thomas' two-way game and defensive effort set him apart in the league.

"The defensive part of his game gets overlooked sometimes because he is such a good offensive player and sometimes that overshadows what he does on the defensive end," said Leslie.

"Given that we like to pride ourselves on defending tough on a yearly basis, I'm really looking forward to adding him to that mix."

The schedule and further details about the 2018-19 season will be revealed soon. Follow the Halifax Hurricanes on social media (facebook.com/halifaxhurricanes, @hfxhurricanes on Twitter) or subscribe to their newsletter for the latest info.
