Hurricanes Announce Season Roster After Busy Training Camp

November 16, 2017 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) - Halifax Hurricanes News Release

HALIFAX, NS -- After a busy training camp, the Halifax Hurricanes are ready to start their journey back to the National Basketball League of Canada Finals.

The Hurricanes announced their final 12-man roster on Wednesday ahead of their season and home opener on Sunday in Halifax after making their final cuts early in the week.

The Hurricanes have brought back a core team of Cliff Clinkscales, Billy White, Renaldo Dixon, CJ Washington, Tyrone Watson, Mike Poole and late addition Antoine Mason.

Along with the return of the fan favourites, the Hurricanes also welcomed four new players to the group.

Saint Mary's University alumni Brian Rouse and Theon Reefer will spend time at the guard positions, while fellow Canadian and Trinity Western alumni Denny MacDonald will fill a forward spot.

From Brooklyn, New York, the Hurricanes also welcomed the shot-blocking big-man Rhamel Brown.

Head coach Mike Leslie was pleased with what he saw over the pre-season.

I am very pleased with the progress that the players have made.

"I don't think there were any surprises. The new players were exactly as advertised," said Leslie.

He says he will look for the new players to find their roles and fit into the type of basketball the Hurricanes have played.

"That will be the biggest adjustment for them. It's sort of the quick introductory for four players who hadn't been with us before," he said. "It's come a long way in a short time."

Leslie said fans can also expect to see more point guard from scoring guards like Antoine Mason and Ta'Quan Zimmerman.

The Hurricanes will kick off their season by hosting the St. John's Edge on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Scotiabank Centre.

Tickets are available at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office and online.
