Albany River Rats News Release
RALEIGH, NC-Ron Francis, Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Development for the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Harrison Reed on a three-year, entry-level contract. The deal will pay Reed an average of $500,000 per season in the NHL and an average of $55,000 per season in the minor leagues. Reed also receives a $100,000 signing bonus as a part of the contract.
"Harrison has good speed and a nice shot, as he showed with an excellent training camp for us in 2006," said Francis. "He has a lot of potential and we are looking forward to watching his progress as he begins his career in professional hockey."
Reed, 20, completed his third full season in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in 2007-08, splitting the year between Sarnia and Guelph. The Newmarket, Ont., native totaled 14 goals and 33 assists (47 points) in 69 games and then notched three goals and two assists (5 points) in 10 playoff games for Guelph. Drafted in the third round, 93rd overall, of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Reed completed his junior hockey career with 69 goals, 109 assists (178 points) and 120 penalty minutes in 210 games with Sarnia and Guelph.
