Huge Third Quarter Propels Mill Rats

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats' huge 35-14 third quarter propelled them to a 108-98 win over the Halifax Rainmen. Saint John improves to 7-1 over the Rainmen this season.

Over the first 14 minutes, the Mill Rats played from behind as the Rainmen built a 31-21 lead. But Saint John went on a strong run to take a 48-46 halftime lead.

In the third quarter the Mill Rats offense exploded for 35 points while their defense held Halifax to just 14. Forced turnovers, rebounds, and even a rare score by the Rainmen all were turned into fast break points by the Mill Rats. Saint John entered the final stanza with an 83-60 advantage.

In the fourth quarter a huge one handed tip slam by Eric Crookshank brought the Mill Rats faithful to their feet, but an ensuing technical by Crookshank for taunting helped put the Rainmen on a quick 6-0 run. The Rainmen chased the Mill Rats the remainder of the quarter to get only as close as the final margin of 10.

Raheem Singleton led the Mill Rats with 24 points off the bench, Doug Herring Jr added 23, Tyrone Levett 16, Anthony Anderson 14, and Casey Love 13. Tim Parham and Olu Famutimi led Halifax with 14 each.

The Mill Rats improve to 17-10 on the season while the Rainmen fall 6-22.

Saint John stays at Harbour Station for tomorrow night to battle the Island Storm at 7PM. The Storm edged the Mill Rats last weekend 129-127 in Charlottetown.
