Odessa Jackalopes News Release

ODESSA, TX - In their first home game in nearly three weeks, the Odessa Jackalopes parlayed a five-goal second period and a hat trick from forward Chad Hennum into a 6-1 win over the New Mexico Mustangs Thursday at the Ector County Coliseum in the first of eleven meetings between the two teams this year. With the win, the Jackalopes have fought back to the .500 mark this season at 5-5-2 and sit alone in 5th place in the NAHL's South Division standings with 12 points.

After a scoreless first period, the Jacks offense exploded in the second frame as Hennum potted back-to-back even strength goals at 6:52 and 10:42 of the second, his third and fourth goals of the year, to stake the Jacks to a 2-0 lead. As if that weren't enough, Odessa piled on, getting additional second-period tallies from Willie Faust, Sheldon Taylor and Darren Lapic to carry a 5-0 lead into the third period.

Wasting no time in the final period of regulation, Hennum connected just 48 seconds into the frame on a feed from Jalen Krogman and Jared Docken to notch his third goal of the game and cap off a four-point night. When all was said and done Hennum emerged from Thursday's tilt tied for second on the team in scoring with eight total points this year (5G, 3A) and found himself in a tie with Faust and Taylor for the team lead in goals with five apiece. Krogman's four assists make him the Jacks' new leading scorer with ten total points (1G, 9A) and Alex Ostrowski's lone assist slots him into third place on the team in scoring with seven total points (1G, 6A). Other point-getters on Thursday included Matt Williams (1A), Tyler Minx (1A) and Jared Docken (2A).

Jacks netminder Connor Hellebuyck was solid again in net as he earned his fourth win of the season, stopping 31 of the 32 shots he faced Thursday night.

After an off-day on Friday, the Jackalopes square off with the South Division's top team, the Amarillo Bulls, for the first time in 2011-12 on Saturday night in the second game of a four-game homestand at the Ector County Coliseum. At 8-1-2, the Bulls have won four of their last five games heading into their Friday clash with the Wichita Falls Wildcats.

The Odessa Jackalopes celebrate their 15th Anniversary in 2011-12 and drop the puck on their inaugural campaign as a member of the North American Hockey League. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-7825 or by visiting the Jacks online at www.jackalopes.org.
