Houston Comets News Release
HOUSTON - The Houston Comets announced today that the team has re-signed restricted free agent All-Star center Michelle Snow to a multi-year contract. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"I am very excited to announce that Michelle Snow will be returning," Head Coach Van Chancellor said. "Michelle gives us a great low-post presence with unique rebounding and shot-blocking abilities. She's a great young player who has made tremendous progress during her time here. Michelle has shown tremendous improvement each season and I'm looking forward to watching her continued development into a premier player in our league."
Snow (6-5, Tennessee '02) averaged a career-best 12.0 points, and tied for eighth in the WNBA with 6.8 rebounds in 33 games last year. She led the WNBA in field goal percentage, hitting .551 (152-276 FG) of her attempts. Snow also tied for 10th in the league in blocked shots per game (1.15), and also posted five 20-plus scoring performances over the 2005 season. Last season, she was selected as an All Star for the first time in her career as a reserve for the West Team in the 2005 WNBA All-Star Game.
The WNBA Most Improved Player of the Year in 2003, Snow holds career averages of 8.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.24 blocks in her four seasons in the WNBA. She ranks fifth in team history in scoring average (8.5), and second in field goal percentage (.500, 427-854 FG). She also ranks fourth in Comets history in total rebounds (846) and third in blocked shots (161). Snow was selected by Houston in the first round (10th overall) of the 2002 WNBA Draft.
This season will mark the 10th Anniversary for the Comets and the WNBA, making it the longest-running professional women's league in history. The 2006 season will kick off at Toyota Center on May 21st when the Comets host the San Antonio Silver Stars.
