Houston Aeros News Release

HOUSTON - The Houston Aeros have released their 2002-03 American Hockey League (AHL) regular season schedule. Highlights of the schedule include 12 match-ups against new I-10 rival, the San Antonio Rampage, and a home game at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., home of the Aeros' National Hockey League affiliate, the Minnesota Wild on Sunday, December 8.

Houston begins its second AHL season, and ninth overall, at home on Friday, October 11 at 7:30 PM against long-time rival Utah. The Grizzlies will stay in town to face the Aeros again the next night, Saturday, October 12. Houston then jumps right into the road season with three games the next weekend in Grand Rapids on Friday (Oct. 18) and in Cincinnati Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 19 and 20). The new San Antonio Rampage make their first visit to the Bayou City on Saturday, October 26 and the Aeros are the inaugural visitor to San Antonio on Sunday, November 3.

The unbalanced 80-game schedule is weighted towards divisional play as 42 of Houston's 80 games are against West Division foes. The Aeros play San Antonio 12 times (six home/six away), and ten each versus the Chicago Wolves, Milwaukee Admirals and Utah Grizzlies (five home/five away). Other Western Conference teams Houston faces are: Cincinnati, Cleveland, Norfolk, Rochester (all two home/two away), Grand Rapids (five home/five away) and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (one home/one away). Aeros face off against Eastern Conference opponents 10 times: Bridgeport, Manitoba (both 2 home/2 away) and Hartford (one home/one away).

Houston wraps up the season with its longest home stand, four games, from March 30 to April 5 and it features Utah (Mar. 30), two games against San Antonio (Apr. 2 and 4) and Grand Rapids (Apr. 5). The Aeros will earn plenty of frequent flyer miles when they hit the road for eight games visiting Hartford (Jan. 22), Bridgeport (Jan. 24 and 25), Grand Rapids (Jan. 28), Rochester (Jan. 29 and 31), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (Feb. 1) and Chicago (Feb. 7).

Overall, Friday is the busiest day of the week for Houston as 20 games fall on that day (nine home/11 away). Saturday and Sunday are next with 18 and 14 games respectively. January is the team's busiest month, as they play 16 games, six home and 10 away. And 10 times this season, the Aeros face the challenge of playing three games in three nights.

Individual game tickets will go on sale on Friday, September 13 at 10:00 AM at all Ticketmaster outlets. Times for home games are as follows: Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM, Sunday at 5:00 PM and weekdays at 7:00 PM. Ticket information for the game in Minnesota will be available at a later date.

For persons who purchased full-season ticket packages, the extra home game has been credited to their account and can be used towards playoff tickets, season tickets or refunded. Contact the Aeros at 713/974-PUCK for more information.
