Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
Youngstown, OH - The Youngstown SteelHounds (21-35-5) put forth a solid effort on Saturday night versus the Colorado Eagles (43-12-6) but a disallowed goal and 10 missed chances on the power play vaulted the Eagles to a 3-1 victory in front of a sellout crowd of 5,717 fans at the Chevrolet Centre. Riley Nelson scored a goal and had two assists and Darryl Lloyd scored the only goal of the night for the SteelHounds.
For the second consecutive night, the Eagles scored the game's first goal gaining the early advantage. Riley Nelson scored his 26th goal of the season assisted by Greg Pankewicz and Brad Willamson scored at the 7:38 mark while on a 5-on-3 power play. The SteelHounds outshot the Eagles 13-6 in the first period as Paulo Colaiacovo was perfect again making 13 stops and shutting out the Hounds for the fourth consecutive period.
The second period had some offense with the SteelHounds tying the score at one with Darryl Lloyd splitting a pair of defenders and streaking in for his 16th goal of the season assisted by Simo Pulkki at the 2:07 mark. Colorado answered with a 4-on-4 on the ice that led to Greg Pankewicz scoring his 43rd goal of the season from between the circles. Riley Nelson and Erik Adams had the assists. Then the game turned with Joey Sewell scoring what appeared to be the game tying goal but a play that had Chris Richards cross-checked into the Colorado goaltender led to an interference call against Richards that was argued to no avail by the SteelHounds bench. The Eagles took advantage and scored on the ensuing power play with Ryan Tobler scoring his 24th goal of the season assisted by Nelson and Adams giving the Eagles a two-goal cushion.
The SteelHounds had more power play chances on Saturday night earning 10 chances to go with the 11 chances they had on Friday night but Colorado thwarted all 21 Hound chances over the weekend.
Youngstown outshot the Eagles 37-28 as Colaiacovo made 36 saves improving to 4-0 versus Youngstown and 29-9-3 on the season. David St. Germain was solid in the defeat stopping 25 shots.
The Hounds host the Fort Worth Brahmas on Wednesday night at the Chevy Centre with face-off scheduled for 7:05 PM.
