Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release

As the National Indoor Football League Champions prepare for the 2003 season on the field, Head Coach Mark Bonar and his Ohio Valley Greyhounds will also participate in an "out of this world" training exercise at Wheeling Jesuit University's Challenger Learning Center.

· At 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 15, players and management for the Ohio Valley Greyhounds will participate in a simulated space mission, "Voyage to Mars" at Wheeling Jesuit University's Challenger Learning Center. Pre-mission activities will begin at 9:30 a.m. The CLC is located on the second level of the Erma Ora Byrd Center for Educational Technologies building.

· The Greyhounds will fill the roles of mission specialists and astronauts as they work together on a daring mission to explore the planet Mars. Through teamwork and problem solving techniques, the players and management will gain new insight into problems faced by NASA scientists and receive information about current Mars exploration missions. Numerous hands-on activities are planned as well.

· The Challenger Learning Center program is a unique hands-on exercise that enhances classroom learning. The skills needed to be successful in a Mission are directly related to skills used in the workforce, decision-making, problem solving and teamwork being a few. The Challenger Learning Center at Wheeling Jesuit University is part of a growing network of centers worldwide established in memory of the ill-fated Challenger Space Shuttle. The CLC at Wheeling Jesuit is comprised of a space station that gives mission participants the simulated experience of working in space and mission control, modeled after NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston. The Challenger Learning Center at Wheeling Jesuit University has been the busiest Center in the CLC network for six consecutive years.
