Grand Rapids Hoops News Release
The Grand Rapids HOOPS shot an electric 60 percent from the field en route to a 126-114 victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce at the DeltaPlex Arena. Jerald Honeycutt and Alex Scales led the way for Grand Rapids, dropping in 29 points apiece, while Olden Polynice enjoyed a perfect night from the field (10-10 FG) as he scored a season-high 20 points.
Kelley McClure scored a game-high 32 points and Victor Thomas added 27 of his own as Sioux Falls lost its fourth consecutive game and dropped their league-worst road record to 3-13.
The first half was a draw as each team shot 56.8 percent from the field and completed the first two quarters tied 57-57. Newly acquired Jack Hartman was shot in the arm for the HOOPS as he connected for 12 second quarter points, including two deep three-pointers. As a team, Grand Rapids nailed six long range jumpers in the half.
Grand Rapids (12-16) emerged as the better team in the second half, hitting on an astounding 63.6 percent of their field goal attempts. The most entertaining player on the court in the final quarter and a half was Polynice, who hit a series of low post jumpers and half-hooks in leading the HOOPS to their best shooting effort of the season.
The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the HOOPS, as they ended their season-high, six-game homestand on a high note. They were 2-4 during the stretch.
The HOOPS now travel to face the Great Lakes Storm on Thursday night at the Birch Run Expo Center. The game will be their only road game in a span of eleven games.
