Hoops Dominate Steelheads

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Grand Rapids HOOPS continued their dominance of the Gary Steelheads, stomping them by a score of 119-98 at the DeltaPlex Arena. The HOOPS were led by six players in double figures, with Jerald Honeycutt leading the way with 19 points and eight rebounds. Grand Rapids took six of seven quarter points on the night.

Grand Rapids (5-5) has won four of five after beginning the season 1-4, three of the victories have been in the past ten days over the struggling Steelheads. Gary (4-7) continues to suffer through a slide in which they have dropped six of seven. The HOOPS broke out to a 15-point first quarter lead, a lead their defense refused to relinquish for the remainder of the evening. On the night, Grand Rapids forced Gary into 27 turnovers.

The home squad was paced by strong performances by Larry Ayuso, who registered 18 points and seven assists, and American Conference Player of the Week Eric Murdock, who contributed 17 points, six assists and five steals.

Gary was led by Galen Young 29-point, 17-rebounds effort.
