Hooks Defeat Missions 3-2, Take Series

San Antonio - The Corpus Christi Hooks defeated the San Antonio Missions 3-2 in their series finale Thursday night at Wolff Stadium.

Corpus starter Matt Heidenreich made his Hooks debut, pitching eight innings and limiting the Missions to five hits and no runs, earning his first Texas League win. Heidenreich joined the Astros system from a trade with the White Sox.

In the first inning, Ben Orloff singled, stole second, advanced to third on a Jonathan Singleton base hit and then scored on a Drew Locke double down the left-field line giving Corpus a 1-0 lead.

Hooks centerfielder, Robbie Grossman, also making his first appearance with Corpus, singled in the eighth then scored on Jose Martinez's single to put his team up 2-0. Locke drove in the Hooks final run with a single to left, plating Martinez for a 3-0 lead.

San Antonio rallied in the bottom of the ninth as Nate Freiman singled up the middle to score Dean Anna who had previously doubled. Edinson Rincon then singled, scoring Freiman to pull the Missions to within a run but Jeudy Valdez lined out to right to end the game.

Tomorrow the Missions take the road for seven games facing the Frisco RoughRiders and Corpus Christi Hooks. San Antonio will return home to face Frisco home on Friday, August 3rd with McCombs Ford West & Superior Hyundai sponsored Missions Jersey Giveaway to the first 1,500 fans through the gate.
