Hooks Avoid Four-Game Sweep, Win 9-3

The Hooks avoided a four-game sweep by defeating Frisco 9-3 Monday night from Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The Hooks jumped ahead 2-0 in the third inning on Jonathan Villar's RBI triple andJimmy Paredes' run scoring groundout. Villar finished 3-for-5 and was a double-shy of the cycle.

Frisco picked up one run in the home half third on a Tommy Mendonca RBI single that scored Renny Osuna who doubled. Mendonca now has 73 RBIs on the season and only trails the Texas League leader Tim Wheeler by four.

Corpus Christi opened the fourth inning with five consecutive singles and ended the frame scoring six runs on seven singles.

Frisco Starter Richard Bleier was pulled after three and a third innings of work and allowed eight runs on nine hits. Bleier falls to 3-5 on the season.

Jonathan Greene picked up his 13th homer of the season in bottom of the fourth to pull the 'Riders back to within an 8-2 score.

Villar sent a solo shot into the 'Riders Pool Zone for his third hit of the game in the sixth inning to extend the Hooks lead.

Trailing 9-2 in the sixth inning, Greene drove in his second run of the night on a single to center that brought home Robinson Diaz.

Hooks' starter Dallas Keuchel pitched six innings of seven hit baseball and allowed three runs. He now improves to 9-6 on the season for Corpus Christi.

Midland RockHounds pay a visit to Dr Pepper Ballpark Tuesday as they will start a three-game set with the 'Riders. Left-hander Robbie Erlin (5-2, 4.37 ERA) will face off against right-hander A.J. Griffin (2-2, 4.84 ERA) at 7:05 p.m.
