North Shore Honu News Release

Four North Shore pitchers combined to shut out Honolulu, 7-0, and earned a two-game-series sweep tonight at Hans L'Orange Park.

The Honu racked up 10 hits on the evening, three of which came from Cleveland Indians prospect Matt McBride. The left fielder hit a solo home run off Honolulu starter Satoshi Nagai to lead off the second frame, depositing the offering amongst the trees beyond the left field fence.

Jason Castro launched a solo home run of his own in the home half of the third inning with two out to give North Shore a 2-0 advantage.

The Honu (8-12) gained some breathing room in the sixth inning thanks to a four-run outburst during which all nine batters came to the plate. Kurt Mertins drove in McBride on a sacrifice fly, and Kenji Sato followed with a double to the left-center field gap, plating both Corey Brown and Chris Carter. After Jonathan Hee drew a walk, Ryan Kalish singled on a line drive up the middle to score Sato, and give North Shore a 6-0 advantage.

Brown gave the Honu an insurance run in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Castro, who led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on a McBride single.

Honolulu (13-7) received three hits from leadoff man Shintaro Masuda, and Tony Cruz increased his league-leading batting average to .444 with two hits on the evening.

North Shore starter Jason Godin (2-1) tossed five scoreless innings through which he struck out six en route to notching the victory. Despite allowing 10 runners to reach base, including seven who did so on base hits, the Kansas City Royals prospect staved off any damage, and lowered his earned run average to 4.26.

Nagai (3-1) turned in five innings as the Sharks starter, allowing five hits-including the two solo home runs-while striking out six in defeat.

Both squads have tomorrow off, and return to action Friday.
