North Shore Honu News Release

Three North Shore pitchers combined to stifle the West Oahu CaneFires in a 6-1 victory tonight at Waipahu's Hans L'Orange Park. Honu starter Blair Johnson (2-1, 2.53 ERA) did not allow a run and surrendered three hits in five innings and struck out four, while relievers Drew Naylor and Takashi Komoshida each pitched in two innings of nearly-flawless relief.

The Honu (14-6) collected 13 hits on the evening, as five hitters had at least two base knocks. Third baseman Mat Gamel led the way with three hits including a double, and Jonathan Lucroy drove in two runs for the HWB West Division-leading North Shore squad. Jeramy Laster hit a towering solo home run to left field in the eighth inning, and now leads the league with five long balls.

The CaneFires (6-13-1) picked up their lone run in the ninth inning on a solo homer from Anthony Hatch, while Jeff Bianchi and Chad Tracy each notched two of West Oahu's five hits on the night.

West Oahu starter Michael Cooper (1-1, 9.53 ERA) took the loss after allowing North Shore's first three runs on nine hits in four innings on the bump.

Both squads return for the second of a three-game series tomorrow at Hans L'Orange Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
