North Shore Honu News Release
Three North Shore Honu pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout of the visiting West Oahu CaneFires in a 5-0 victory this afternoon at Waipahu's Hans L'Orange Park.
North Shore (7-4) starter Shinya Nakayama increased his record to 2-0 on the season, allowing a lone hit to the CaneFires hitters while striking out six. Relievers Jacob Marceaux and Charles Benoit kept the shutout intact, combining to allow a hit through the final three innings.
Mat Gamel, Lou Santangelo and Masahiro Nagata each picked up two hits for the Honu in the game which lasted a mere two hours, 11 minutes. North Shore did the bulk of its damage in the home half of the fifth inning, bringing three runs across the plate on an RBI fielder's choice from Brad Corley, a bases-loaded walk to Stephen Chapman, and a Dusty Ryan sacrifice fly.
Blake Wood (0-1) took the loss for the CaneFires after allowing all five runs, four of which were earned, and striking out eight Honu batters.
Russell Mitchell and Ian Gac each had one of West Oahu's hits.
The same two teams get right back at it tomorrow at Hans L'Orange Park. First pitch it set for noon.
