
Honeycutt, Panko Honored by CBA

Boise, Idaho (Dec. 16, 2002)â The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Grand Rapids Hoops forward Jerald Honeycutt was named American Conference Player of the Week, while Dakota Wizards forward Andy Panko earned National Conference honors, for the period of Dec 8-14.
In three games, Honeycutt averaged 23.7 ppg on 28-49 shooting from the field (.571) and posted 12.6 rpg and 5.3 apg. On Dec. 12, the 6-8 Tulane product contributed 24 points and 10 rebounds to a 148-95 win over the Gary Steelheads, helping to set a new franchise single game point total record. The previous mark was set on Jan. 28, 1994, in a 146-140 win over the La Crosse Bobcats. This is Honeycutt's first such award in his second CBA season.
Panko, who won his first career award after this season's first week, led the Wizards to a 2-1 record behind his 19.3 ppg and 9.7 rpg. In a 112-91 victory over the Idaho Stampede on Dec. 14, Panko poured in 21 points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
Other players receiving consideration for American Conference honors were Great Lakes' James Head (29.7 ppg, 10.0 rpg), Gary's Oliver Miller (16.3 ppg, 11.3 rpg), and Rockford's Albert White (34.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg). The three other players receiving consideration in the National Conference were Yakima's Paul Shirley (17.0 ppg, 2.0 bpg), Idaho's Danny Johnson (23.0 ppg, .643 fgp), and Sioux Falls' Corsley Edwards (17.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg).
