Honduras National Team Player Ramon Nuñez Joins Strikers

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers have today announced the signing of Honduras national team midfielder Ramon Nuñez. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Nuñez, 30, boasts a prolific career for club and country. The midfielder has earned an impressive 45 caps for Honduras and was named in the country's squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
"Ramon Nuñez is a player with a wonderful background and experience at the international level," said Head Coach and General Manager Caio Zanardi. "On the ball, he is an aggressive player who likes to take on defenders in one-on-one situations. Nuñez will add another dimension of attacking quality that we need."
In South Africa, Nuñez featured in all three of Honduras' World Cup matches against Chile, Switzerland, and Spain. In 2011, Nuñez featured for the national team in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, and was named MVP of the Copa Centroamericana, as Honduras won the 2011 tournament.
Nuñez began his club career in the United States with Major League Soccer side FC Dallas in 2004. During his club career in native Honduras, Nuñez was voted Olimpia Player of the Year, as the club claimed the first division title during the 2007-2008 season.
Following the World Cup, Nuñez signed with historic English side Leeds United. Scoring in his first game, he went on to spend two and a half seasons with the club, before returning to FC Dallas for a second stint. During his time in England, Nuñez also impressed on loan at Scunthorpe United.
A central midfielder with an attacking flair, Nuñez is also comfortable playing on the wing. The experienced player has spent time playing in Mexico, with Cruz Azul, and has most recently featured for Real España.
Nuñez will wear the number 9 jersey for the Strikers.
A United States green card holder, Nuñez does not count against the foreign player limit. He is available for selection to face Jacksonville Armada FC on Saturday, April 23, pending clearance of an International Transfer Certificate. Tickets for the match are on sale at Strikers.com/tickets.
