Homestand Ends With Big Loss for Bears

The Yakima Bears suffered a 10-0 loss to the Tri-City Dust Devils Monday night at Yakima County Stadiums. The Dust Devils earned the series win, meaning the Bears have lost each of the first three series this season.

Tri-City took a five run lead after five innings and then doubled that lead with a five-run seventh inning. The early runs were charged to starter Brad Wilson, who gave up a solo home run, but was also tagged with three unearned runs in six innings of work. Greg Robinson was roughed up in the fifth, as he gave up five runs on five hits while only recording one out.

The game was finished by lefties Mike Blake and Justin Albert, who allowed no runs in a combined two and two thirds innings.

The Bears were outhit 16-5, with both Zach Jones and Danny Pulfer finishing 2-for-4.

Dust Devils starter Christian Bergman improved to 1-2 with the win and reliever Rafael Suarez earned a three-inning save.

With the Bears going 2-4 on the homestand, the team is now 3-8 overall this season. Tuesday the Bears start a three-game series against the Spokane Indians, who are 6-5 this season. First pitch in the series-opener is scheduled for 6:30. The expected pitchers are righty Teo Gutierrez for the Bears and lefty Victor Payano for the Indians. The game can be heard live on AM 1460 KUTI, with the pre-game show starting at 6:15.
