Kalamazoo Kings News Release

When the Kalamazoo Kings begin the 2003 season at Homer Stryker Field on May 23, fans will see new additions and many changes at the ballpark.

Before the cold weather set in, Phase II of the ballpark renovation got underway. The entire outfield was dug up and reworked with a new tile drainage and pump system to smooth out the playing field and eliminate marshy areas. Brand new sod will be laid in April. As a part of the outfield renovation, the park will become a right-hand hitter's power park with the movement of the left field fence in to 300 ft. from its previous 330 ft. The new fence will then angle out 165 feet to meet up with the 375-foot fence in left center field.

In addition to the outfield improvements, Homer Stryker Field will feature additional amenities for Kings fans. Behind the left field wall, a second picnic deck, measuring 60 feet by 40 feet, will be constructed. This deck, similar to the deck in right field, will have a roof overhang and allow more groups to enjoy a great view of the ballgame.

The concourse areas along the right and left field lines will also have new additions. The Meijer Fan Services Booth and the Kings Souvenir Stand will become more accessible to fans in their new building located along the right field line adjacent to the visitor's clubhouse. The Kings also want to provide fans with quicker concession stand service by constructing a second concession stand adjacent to the third base bleachers.
