Rockford IceHogs News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind.- In a game with first place implications, the Rockford IceHogs and Fort Wayne didn't disappoint. The Hogs, however, left Fort Wayne disappointed as the Komets slipped by them 3-1 in a play-off atmosphere type game. The Komets now have a two-point edge in the standings for the top spot in the UHL's Western Conference.

The scoring began in the second period and it was the Komets who struck first. Defenseman Mario Larocque slapped in his 21st goal of the season off a perfect feed from Daniel Goneau at 5:31. Rockford got the goal back at 10:34 while short-handed. Winger Paul Brown flipped in his fifth tally of the season past Kevin St. Pierre. Larocque tallied again later in the frame on the power play when he blasted the go-ahead marker past Frederic Cloutier at 17:47.

Fort Wayne sealed the game late in the third period with an empty net goal. J.C. Ruid picked up a loose puck and fired it the length of the ice for a power-play empty net tally at 19:17. The contest finished with fisticuffs as the Hogs and Komets combined for 58 penalty minutes in the game's final minute.

Rockford outshot the Komets 34-28, but St. Pierre was too much between the pipes, making 33 saves. Cloutier played solid but was the tough-luck loser making 25 saves. Rockford went 0-for-6 on the power play while the Komets finished 2-for-11

Next Homestand: Friday, March 16 vs. Kalamazoo Wings. Game time is 7:30 p.m. A pre-St. Patrick's Day bash at the MetroCentre as the Hogs welcome the defending Colonial Cup champs. The first 1,000 fans to the game will pick-up an IceHogs Stadium Cup from Bud Light and Bob FM.
