Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard announced Monday that the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League have signed goaltender Joe Palmer to a one-year AHL contract.

Palmer, 21, appeared in three games with The Ohio State University in 2008-09 before suffering a season-ending injury. He was the #96 overall (round 4) pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks.

"Joe Palmer is another young goaltending prospect who will add some valuable depth to our goaltending position here in Rockford," said Bernard. "Goaltenders all mature at different rates and ages, and it will be a very exciting season for Joe as he begins his first as a professional. We plan to watch him closely and have him work with Developmental Goaltending Coach Wade Flaherty quite a bit."

In his three seasons with the Buckeyes, the Utica, New York native skated in 68 games, finishing 25-34-8 with a .889 save percentage and 3.04 goals against average. He had two career shutouts.

The netminder also played for Team USA in the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship and was invited to the 2006 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp.
