Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY - The First Arena will be a haven for hockey fans this Labor Day weekend with the Future Stars Pro Game and the Jackals Tryout Camp.
First Arena is going to be ALIVE with exciting hockey action all weekend long in Elmira. The fun begins on Friday, September 1st, as the Jackals and the First Arena will host the Future Stars Exhibition Game. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm face off at The Rec Rink and admission is just $5; pre-game warm-ups will start at 6:30 pm. This exhibition is the culmination of the 10-day Future Stars Training & Fitness Camp that has been going on in the downtown facility since Wednesday, August 23rd. The 38 players in the camp, along with several Jackals players who are already in town, have been pushed to the limit by World Class Fitness & Power Skating Trainer Besa Tsintsadze.
Despite the fantastic talent that will be on display on Friday night, the weekend is only just beginning. Saturday kicks off the Jackals first-ever Professional Hockey Placement Camp. More than 80 hopeful players from all over the world will be hitting the First Arena ice with eyes of winning a few coveted invitations to the Jackals Training Camp in October. A round robin tournament will be held all day Saturday, September 2nd, beginning at 10:00 am and running until 10:00 pm on The Rec Rink. Sunday, September 3rd, the Tryout Camp Championship Game will begin at 10:00 am and the Consolation Game will start at 12:00 pm. Admission is free as this Tryout Camp is Open to the Public!
"This is an excellent weekend for fans to come out and watch some exciting hockey action," said General Manager Robbie S. Nichols. "The Friday night game will feature many players who are going to NHL camps in the coming weeks. Saturday will be non-stop hockey action at the Arena, where fans might think they're in Montreal, Quebec for the day. It will be fast-paced, fun hockey to watch because the participants will be giving 110% for their opportunity to make the Jackals Training Camp Roster. I urge everyone to come support these guys, who will be working extremely hard to show their stuff, and who knows, maybe you'll see some future Elmira Jackals."
Players from all over the United States and Canada, as well as Sweden, Norway, Slovakia, Japan, Germany, England and even Mexico will be swooping down on Elmira for this camp, but there is some local talent as well. 25-year old forward Garrett Spaulding, from Painted Post, NY, has registered for the weekend's festivities after playing most recently for California University of Pennsylvania, located south of Pittsburg in California, PA. Some of the international players on the Tryout Roster include: Tobias Karlsson, Daniel da Costa Lindstrom and Calle Brattenberger from Sweden; Janne Saarenpaa from Mogreina, Norway; Ohata Atushi, Daisuke Takahashi, Takayoshi Kawamoto, Reo Kurosawa and Hironori Kobayashi from Japan; Jean-Edouard Couffe from Nice, France; Javier Rabago from Mexico City, Mexico; Tim Schnieder from Waldkraiburg, Germany and others. Some of the Jackals already signed for the 2006-07 season will also be participating in the Tryout games, including Brent Cullaton, Arturs Kupaks, Chris Shaw and Brendan Tedstone. A full roster of all participants in the 2006 Jackals Professional Hockey Placement Camp will be available at The Rec Rink during the weekend event.
