Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-The Waterloo Black Hawks are celebrating 50 years of hockey in the Cedar Valley. John Deere has been part of the community for nearly a full century. This weekend, the Hawks will wear John Deere-logoed uniforms for the fifth time, in a partnership which will benefit the area's young hockey talent.

Each winter since 2007-2008, the Black Hawks have sported a uniquely-designed jersey featuring the logo and colors of Deere & Company. Once again, the sweaters will be auctioned at the end of Saturday night's game against the Dubuque Fighting Saints, with funds raised benefitting the Waterloo Youth Hockey Association and its affiliated programs.

"John Deere equipment and technology from Waterloo goes around the world to affect the lives of literally billions of people," said Black Hawks president Doug Miller. "We could not be more proud to wear their colors to help showcase how much they mean to the Cedar Valley."

Head Coach P.K. O'Handley also commented, "Our hockey staff is here to teach the players who come through our program about the fruits of effort and teamwork. I can't think of a better example of those values in action than what you see in action from the people who build Deere equipment."

Past auctions of John Deere jerseys have generated a four-season total of over $40,000 for local youth activities. The mostly white 2012 design has the traditional Deere logo on the chest with a small American flag above, covering the front of the right shoulder. The sides of the shoulders feature the Black Hawks traditional and 50-year logos to the right and left respectively, above black numbers outlined in yellow. Numbers in the same style adorn the back of each sweater below a black player nameplate. To either side of the back numbers or front logo, a yellow, black, and green striped pattern runs down into a similar set of horizontal stripes at belt level. That element is also mirrored on the sleeves near the elbows.

All current and retired Deere & Company employees and their families can enjoy $7 tickets during both of the Black Hawks' weekend home games, against the Fargo Force Friday and Dubuque Saturday, by showing their employee identification at the Black Hawks Box Office. Both matchups begin at 7:05 PM. Box Office hours are 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM Wednesday and Thursday and 11:30 AM to game time Friday and Saturday.
