THE HILLCATS: Frederick took down the Cats 8-1 last night at City Stadium to even up the four-game series at a game a piece...The Cats are now 5-6 on this current stretch of 13 games in a row at home, the longest homestand in Hillcats history after playing 17 of their first 23 on the road...
VS. FREDERICK: Last year the Hillcats dominated the series with the Keys, winning 15 out of 20 games in 2007, including seven out of ten at City Stadium...Frederick took two out-of-three from Lynchburg in the opening series of the 2008 at Harry Grove Stadium...The Cats have the all-time advantage 139-121, and are 73-60 at City Stadium against the Keys...
WEARY OF WIETERS: Last night Keys catcher Matt Wieters had his second two homer game of the season off the Hillcats...The fifth overall pick in last year's draft hit two home runs in his first two professional at-bats against Lynchburg in the season opener in Frederick...In 2008 Wieters is batting .467 (7-for-15) with four home runs and seven RBI versus the Cats...
CLUBBING CATCHER: C Steve Lerud hit his team leading sixth home run in the fourth inning last night...On the current homestand the Cats catcher is batting .324 (11-for-34) with three doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI...Over his last 20 games the former fourth round pick in 2003 is hitting .308 (20-for-65) with six doubles, five home runs and 18 RBI...
FINE NIGHT FOR FRIDAY: Wednesday night SS Brian Friday went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and three runs scored...The 2007 third round draft pick was 3/4 of the way to a cycle after three at-bats in the first four innings...It was the first four-hit game of his career...The shortstop is now batting .342 (14-for-41) on this homestand with 7 doubles, a triple, 5 RBI and 11 runs scored in eleven games...He is now tied for third in the league with 24 runs scored...
INCREDIBLE START: 3B Jim Negrych entered the day first in the league in hits (48), batting average (.390), and RBI (24), and on-base percentage (.454) and tied for third in runs scored (24)...The former sixth round pick from 2006 recorded 17 multi-hit games in his first 28 starts this season, reached safely in 27 of his first 28 games played and he is hitting an astonishing .512 (21-for-41) with men in scoring position...
FLYING OUT OF THE YARD: On Saturday night a combined five home runs were hit between the Hillcats and Indians, a season-high for a Cats game this season...The three home runs Lynchburg hit were the most in a game this season and the Cats have now knocked fourteen home runs in their last 18 games after only hitting three home runs in their first 16 contests...
HITTING STRIDE: INF/OF Eddie Prasch extended his season-high hitting streak to thirteen games on Wednesday night with his 1-for-4 performance...The 2004 third round draft pick of the Pirates has hit .327 (16-for-49) over that stretch...He now has the longest hitting streak by a Hillcat this season...
