Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
The Lynchburg Hillcats guaranteed themselves a split of the series by taking a 3-0 victory over the Salem Red Sox in a rain shortened game Saturday night.
Austin Peterson picked up his first win of the season after completing five innings of shutout baseball before handing it over to Yeury Gervacio for the save.
For the second night in a row, the Hillcats pounced in the first inning to take an early lead. After a Juan Benjamin single, Wuilfredo Antunez pulled a triple into the right field corner for an RBI-triple to get the scoring started. He would score later in the inning on a Guy Lipscomb fielder's choice.
The game stayed quiet until the bottom of the fourth inning, when the Hillcat Hero from Thursday night delivered again. Jose Devers added an insurance run on an RBI line drive single to right that scored Lipscomb.
From there, the pitching staff held Salem quiet, as they could not get anything started.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the rain forced the tarp to be pulled on the field where it would stay as the game was called final.
Lynchburg will look to win their second straight series on Sunday as they face the Red Sox at 2 p.m. at Bank of the James Stadium.
