Higgins Signed by Mariners

(New Britain, Conn.) - New Britain Bees team officials have announced that right-handed pitcher Tyler Higgins has had his contract purchased by the Seattle Mariners organization. He will report to Triple-A Tacoma of the Pacific Coast League.

"Tyler has had a great season for us so far," says Bees General Manager Brad Smith. "We're very happy that he received this chance and we wish him the best of luck in his quest to make the Major Leagues."

This season, Tyler has appeared in 14 games for the Bees, recording a 1.88 ERA with three save and 18 strikeouts in 14.1 innings of work.

The 27-year-old was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 23rd round of the 2011 MLB amateur draft. He spent his entire minor league career with Miami, reaching as high at the Double-A level, where he debuted at in 2014. Over the course of 211 minor league appearances, Tyler owns 13 wins, with a 3.63 ERA, 11 saves, and 260 strikeouts over the course of 322.0 innings pitched.

Higgins is the second Bees player to have his contract purchased during the 2018 season.
