Jacksonville Barracudas News Release

PELHAM, Ala. - The stellar play of rookie goaltender Randy Hevey was not enough as the Barracudas lost tonight 3-1 to the Alabama Slammers. It's the third loss in a row for the Cudas and the fourth in the last five games.

Jacksonville (24-13-1, 49 points) holds on to first place in the WHA2, but the fight for the top position is up for grabs as only four points separate the top four teams. Alabama (21-14-3, 45 points) moves into a third place tie with Miami only four points off the pace. Orlando (21-10-4, 46 points) is second only three points back.

Former Barracudas Justin Shabes got the Slammers on the board first taking a feed from Jeff Coulter. Jorin Welsh's goal midway through the third period gave the Slammers a two-goal lead. The Cudas thought they cut the lead to one when Steve MacIntyre beat Jamie Ronayne. Referee Mike Foy signaled for the goal but changed his call after talking with the goal judge. The Cudas finally got on the board late in the third when Chad Gromek slipped one past the Slammers net minder. Another former Barracudas player, Chad Peck added an empty net to ice the game for the Slammers.

These two teams meet again Saturday night at the Pelham Civic Complex. Face-off time is 8:05pm Eastern. Catch all the live play-by-play action at jacksonvillebarracudas.com through IRN.fm.

The Barracudas continue their five-game road trip this Tuesday night in Lakeland before returning home for their next eight of nine at the Veteran's Memorial Arena on Friday, February 20th against the Macon Trax.

Group and corporate ticket packages available by calling the Barracudas office at 904-367-1-ICE.
