Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks announced Sunday that they have re-signed James Hiebert for the remainder of the 2008-09 season. Hiebert is expected to be in the line-up when the Bucks host Corpus Christi Sunday at the LEC. It will be Hiebert's first game with Laredo since game seven of last season's Conference Finals on April 26th, 2008.
Hiebert had not played at all this season to focus on a couple of business ventures in Laredo.
The fan favorite Hiebert has played parts of the last five seasons in Laredo, and has helped lead them to two President's Cup Championships.
The 26-year old Hiebert is third in Bucks history in goals (85) and assists (160), and fourth in games played (238), and points (222).
"James Hiebert is one of the major reasons for our past successes", said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "We need him back in the line-up, and we hope he can spark us to a long playoff run".
This is the second time that Hiebert has re-joined the Bucks this late in the season.
Hiebert returned to play the final six games of the 2006-07 season, and put up 19 points in the playoffs to help lead Laredo to their fourth straight Finals appearance.
Hiebert set career highs last season in goals (26), game-winning goals (6), plus/minus (+31), and shots (203).
Hiebert joins Brent Cullaton as the second Buck to return to the team this season.
In related roster moves, Jeff Bes has been placed on the season ending IR, and Josh Bonar has been waived to make room for Hiebert.
Laredo will return home on Sunday afternoon for a rematch with the Ice Rays at the LEC. It's TAMIU Day, where the first 1,500 fans get a TAMIU Day T-shirt! The Bucks will wear special St. Paddy's Day Jersey's that will be auctioned off after the game.
All TAMIU students, faculty, staff and alumni can purchase $5 tickets to the game. Call 718-BUCK (2825).
