Heroes Invade Historic Holman Stadium This Weekend

June 3, 2009 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release

NASHUA, NH (3 June 2009) - The U.S. Military and Latin Stars will be joining forces this weekend for a two-game series at Historic Holman Stadium when they host the Yawkey League All-Stars as part of the 20th annual "Red, White and Blue Diplomacy Tour" visiting 45 states and 8 countries.

This will be the third year the teams have faced off on D-DAY, but the first meeting in the granite state. The Tour is part of a five-team organization that also operates the newly minted American Defenders of New Hampshire that call Holman home and compete in the Can-Am professional league.

Cooper Brannan will be the starting pitcher on Friday night when he rejoins the U.S. Military All-Stars after a two-year effort in professional baseball. He played for the Marine Corps and the U.S. Military All-Stars while he was in the service. Both teams were founded by Terry Allvord, COO of the American Defenders of New Hampshire. It was that exposure back in 2007 that led to him being signed by the San Diego Padres.

Brannan was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps and his service includes two tours of duty in Iraq. He sustained wounds to his left hand from a flash bang grenade during his second deployment, which resulted in a Purple Heart and his being sent to San Diego Navy Medical Center for treatment and rehabilitation. Brannan served four years and now the 24-year-old will try to earn a roster spot on the American Defenders.

Another Marine, Sgt. Isaac Rodriguez, served with Brannan and will appear in relief on Friday night. He also did two tours in Iraq earning two Purple Hearts; his body is full of metal fragments and he's suffered concussions and perforated eardrums from exploding land mines.

Both games are at 6:35 PM with GAME 1 Friday, 5 June (COMCAST) and GAME 2 on Saturday, 6 June
